Amy Skorheim writes about smart home gadgets, smartwatches, smartphones and other gadgets without smart in the name — namely batteries. She earned an English degree from UCLA and has written for publications including Futurism, Digg and, most recently, Engadget. She's happy to continue her habit of creating far too many spreadsheets when she tests electronics at Yahoo Tech now. For five years, she lived off-grid in the mountains of New Mexico where she fell in love with solar power, learned how to grow food, harvested rainwater and wrangled rattlesnakes — all of which (except the snakes part) she has carried into city life.
